Why this project needed our help?

Ichar is a secluded village in the Zanskar area of Ladakh, located in the Western Himalayas. The government school in Ichar provides education to 60 students, ranging from 4 to 15 years of age, from the village and neighboring settlements.

Due to extreme cold, the school shuts down every winter. In 2010, the school suffered significant damage due to floodwaters. The remote location of the area made it challenging to restore buildings, bridges, and tracks.

Following the floods, The Juniper Trust donated £1000 to purchase and deliver 84 durable pairs of shoes, essential stationary, and other educational supplies. Further donations have been made since to replenish the supplies and toiletries, to provide mattresses to summer boarders, and to establish a small library by buying books. The books have proven to be very beneficial to both students and teachers, and the financial assistance provided has been extremely helpful.
