Why this project needed our help?

Khane Primary School, located in the remote Hushe Valley in Baltistan, was first brought to our attention by two volunteers who had visited the area as members of a climbing expedition in 2010. Returning 2 years later as volunteers, to help train teachers for the Felix Baltistan Foundation, they pinpointed the real need for continuing the financial support of teacher training in the area. Khane School, having already raised the funds to build an extra classroom, needed help with paying a year’s salary for two extra teachers.

At the start of 2013, The Juniper Trust provided £2000 to cover two teacher salaries for the first year and in 2014 & 2015, a similar amount was jointly funded by the Juniper Trust and the same two long standing supporters, who originally brought attention to this project. On later visit to the school, they attested to ‘a staggering improvement in teaching methods’ following the training courses sponsored by Juniper Trust (See Baltistan Teacher Training Project).

The Juniper Trust continues to receive feedback from Khane School. The teachers and pupils are doing well, proving the success of the intervention of teacher training programmes in the area. We believe that education, especially of girls, has been key to improving living conditions in this isolated region.
