Why this project needed our help?

At an altitude of over 3500m above sea level, Markha Valley School is situated in a remote mountainous area of Ladakh. In 2008, the school requested funding for a new roof and essential repairs to the grounds.

With the assistance of George Watson College, £4,500 was raised to pay for the repairs to Markha Valley School and to support the Lingshed Area Children’s Hostel development. This included £500 for purchasing a new computer for the Hostel. George Watson College sent a team of pupils to work alongside the Markha villagers for three days. They assisted in the construction of a new school roof, repairing the veranda, clearing an outside play area, and building stepping stones and pathways for the children to get to their classrooms and latrines with dry feet.

The work was done in hot sunshine with few tools and lots of dust! Markah Valley School and Juniper Trust extend their heartfelt gratitude to George Watson College for their amazing efforts in fundraising for this and other worthy causes in Ladakh.
