Why this project needed our help?

In 2011, our dedicated volunteer Ayub visited the remote community of Shadri in Asumbar and was approached by the locals to assist in building a school. The community generously donated the land, and Ayub reached out to The Juniper Trust, who agreed to support the project. Despite facing challenges such as floods and limited access to materials, we managed to raise an incredible £8000 and successfully constructed the school over a span of two years. The Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Education Director were amazed by our efforts, and in 2013, the school opened its doors, providing education to boys and girls from the village and neighbouring areas.

But our commitment didn’t end there! The Juniper Trust has continued to support the school by providing funding for a teacher’s and caretaker’s salary, uniforms, and equipment for all 20 children. Thanks to our efforts, some of these children have now progressed to secondary education. Even in the face of neglect from authorities and reduced tourism due to the impact of COVID-19, Ayub made sure to visit the school regularly, delivering additional uniforms, books, and equipment.

In 2022, the Juniper Trust generously sponsored two volunteer female teachers for Asumbar village school, as there were no available funds to pay them. Altogether, we need to raise £1000 annually to support a teacher and caretaker at Shadri Village school, and the two part-time teachers in Asumber Village, as well as cover expenses for uniforms and school equipment. But that’s not all! We are also exploring options for teacher training to enhance the school’s success rate for students graduating to secondary school.

With your support, we can continue to make a significant impact on the lives of these children and their community. Please consider donating now through our dedicated JustGiving page and help us provide education and opportunities where they are needed the most!
